ADHD
Understanding it

What is ADHD?

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulse control and activity level. It often continues into adulthood — where it can look like chronic disorganization, restlessness, or trouble following through rather than the obvious hyperactivity seen in children.

Wave provides careful evaluation and individualized treatment for adults, helping you understand your brain and build a plan that finally fits.

Signs & symptoms

Adult ADHD often shows up as:

Inattention

  • Trouble focusing, or hyperfocusing at the wrong times
  • Losing track of tasks, time and belongings
  • Easily distracted; difficulty finishing projects

Hyperactivity / Impulsivity

  • Restlessness or feeling “driven by a motor”
  • Interrupting, blurting or impatience
  • Impulsive decisions or spending

Daily Impact

  • Chronic lateness and procrastination
  • Overwhelm from everyday organization
  • Frustration, low self-esteem or anxiety
The evaluation

How it’s diagnosed at Wave

Diagnosing adult ADHD involves a thorough evaluation of your history — often back to childhood — current symptoms, and how they affect work and relationships. We rule out look-alikes such as anxiety, depression or sleep problems, which can mimic or accompany ADHD.

An accurate diagnosis matters: it guides safe, effective treatment and avoids misattributing symptoms to something else.

With more than 18 years of experience, he treats the cases other practices send onward — including complex and treatment-resistant presentations.

Because Wave combines everyday psychiatric care with advanced, interventional options under one roof, your plan can evolve as you do — from medication management to TMS, Spravato or ketamine — without starting over with a new provider.

What to expect

Your first appointment

Your first visit is a thorough evaluation. You’ll find a welcoming environment where our highly trained staff work to understand your history, your symptoms, and what you’re hoping to change.

While an evaluation is not a guarantee of a prescription, if medication is deemed appropriate, we’ll work closely with you to ensure you understand the risks and benefits. Together we’ll outline a personalized plan and the next steps that fit your life.

Most new patients are seen within one to two weeks — and care is available both in person and through secure, HIPAA-compliant telemedicine across Pennsylvania, Florida and New Jersey.

Common questions

ADHD FAQ

Can adults be diagnosed with ADHD?

Absolutely. Many adults are diagnosed for the first time later in life, often after years of struggling without knowing why. Treatment can be life-changing at any age.

Are stimulant medications the only treatment?

No. Stimulants help many people, but non-stimulant medications and skills-based strategies are also effective. We tailor treatment to your health and history, including any substance-use concerns.

Will I have to take medication forever?

Not necessarily. Some people use medication only when they need it most; others benefit long-term. We revisit the plan regularly with you.
